Day 6: Pillar of the Church

The sixth day addresses Mary as Pillar of the Church, the title invoking her constant maternal support of the Catholic faithful.

Mary, Pillar of the Church

Saint Augustine of Hippo described Mary as the forma Ecclesiae, the form of the Church: what is true of her is true in some way of every Catholic believer. She is the firm pillar on which the Catholic mystery rests; she who said fiat at the Annunciation holds open the way for every subsequent Christian fiat.

Prayer

Mary, Pillar of the Church, sustain the faithful in our age. Sustain me in my own faith. May I never fall away from the Catholic Church to which you gave its founder, your Son. Amen.
