The Saint Padre Pio Novena

Day 2: The Holy Mass

The second day brings the petitioner to the heart of Padre Pio's spiritual life: the Holy Mass.

Padre Pio's words

"It would be easier for the world to survive without the sun than without the Holy Mass."

Padre Pio celebrated daily Mass with such physical and spiritual intensity that those present often watched in tears. He understood the Mass as the same redemptive act of Christ on Calvary, made present sacramentally.

Reflection

For Padre Pio, the Eucharist was not one Catholic practice among many; it was the center from which all the rest received its meaning. The novena returns the petitioner to the Mass as the place where every petition is finally heard, where every grace is received.

Prayer

Saint Padre Pio, you who lived for the Mass, obtain for me a deeper love of the Eucharist. Let my reception of Communion be the actual encounter with Christ that you knew it to be.

O Lord Jesus, present in every Catholic tabernacle, hear me. Amen.

Conclude with one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be.
