Day 6: The incorrupt body

Day 6 attends to the discovery of Cecilia's incorrupt body in 1599.

The sarcophagus opened

When the sarcophagus of Saint Cecilia was opened at Santa Cecilia in Trastevere in 1599, the body was found incorrupt, in the precise position recorded in the Acta: hands joined, head turned, the wound on the neck visible. The sculptor Stefano Maderno made a marble image of the body in that position, which remains under the high altar.

Saint Cecilia, give us your patient witness through the centuries. May the Catholic Church preserve its memory of you and of every faithful martyr. Amen.
