Day 5: The Paschal fire at Tara
Day 5 attends to the most famous moment of Patrick's mission: the lighting of the Paschal fire at Tara, in defiance of the pagan high king's prohibition.
The fire that could not be put out
On Easter Eve, around 433, Patrick lit a Paschal fire on the Hill of Slane, opposite the royal hill of Tara. The high king's druids could not extinguish it. The king received Patrick, and the conversion of the kings began.
Prayer
Saint Patrick, who lit the fire of the Catholic faith in Ireland, light the fire of the faith in my own home. Amen.
Conclude with one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be.
