The first day of the novena addresses Our Lady of Mount Carmel as Mother.

Mary, Mother of Carmel

Saint Simon Stock received the scapular from Mary as the gift of a mother to her child. The Carmelite Order has always called her Mater Carmeli, Mother of Carmel. Prayer

Mary, Mother of Carmel, take me under your maternal protection. I am your child by the gift of the scapular. Watch over me in this life, and at the hour of my death receive me into your maternal arms. Amen.
