Mary, Patroness of the Carmelite Order

The Carmelite Order has lived from the twelfth century under the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who is invoked in the Carmelite Litany as "Patroness of our Order." Her patronage is exercised continuously in the prayer and witness of Saint Teresa of Avila, Saint John of the Cross, Saint Therese of Lisieux, and the countless Carmelite saints she has formed.

Prayer

Mary, Patroness of Carmel, you who have raised up so many saints in your Order, raise me up also to imitate them. May the spirit of Carmel (silent prayer, recollection, love of God above all things) become my own. Amen.
