The eighth day addresses Mary as Refuge of Sinners.

Mary, Refuge of Sinners

The Carmelite tradition holds that the Brown Scapular promise is principally a promise of mercy: that the wearer who falls into sin is given through Marian intercession the grace of repentance and of return. The Catholic spiritual tradition has invoked Mary as Refugium Peccatorum (Refuge of Sinners) since the medieval period.

Prayer

Mary, Refuge of Sinners, I come to you with my own sins. Obtain for me from your Son the grace of true repentance and a firm purpose of amendment. Bring me to Confession. Help me not to despair of God's mercy. Amen.
