The Saint Michael the Archangel Novena

Day 7: The choir of the Principalities

The seventh day of the Saint Michael Novena petitions through the choir of the Principalities and asks for the grace of faithfulness in vocation.

The Principalities

The Principalities (Greek archai, "first ones") are the seventh choir of angels, beginning the lowest hierarchy of the angelic order. Saint Paul names them in the great enumeration of heavenly powers (Romans 8:38, Ephesians 1:21, Colossians 1:16). The Catholic patristic tradition identifies them as the angels assigned to the protection of nations, cities, and corporate bodies (parishes, religious communities, civil institutions).

The Principalities are characterized by stewardship: they preside over the larger structures of human and ecclesial life with watchful fidelity to God's plan.

The grace of Day 7

Today we ask through the intercession of Saint Michael and the Principalities for the grace of faithfulness in our vocation: that we may persevere in the duties of our state in life, that we may serve faithfully the church and family and community to which God has called us, and that we may finish what God has given us to do.

Prayer

Saint Michael the Archangel, by your intercession and that of the choir of the Principalities, give us the grace of faithfulness. Make us steady in our vocations and our duties. Let us not abandon what God has set before us.

O Lord God, You who have called us each by name, sustain us in the calling You have given us. Amen.

Conclude with one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be.
