Day 1: Captivity

Day 1 attends to Patrick's six years of captivity in Ireland as a slave.

The unwilling visit

At sixteen, Patrick was captured by Irish raiders and sold as a slave. He kept sheep for a master in the west of Ireland for six years. In captivity, he learned the language, the customs, and the prayers of the people who would later become his Catholic flock.

Prayer

Saint Patrick, you who found God in the years of unwilling captivity, intercede for me. Where my own circumstances feel like imprisonment, help me to find God there. Amen.
