Day 7: The thorn

Day 7 attends to the partial stigmata Rita received in 1442, a single thorn-wound on her forehead.

The visible sign

While praying before the crucifix in the convent chapel, Rita asked Christ to let her share in one of His sufferings. A thorn detached from the crucifix and pierced her forehead. The wound remained for the last fifteen years of her life.

Prayer

Saint Rita, you who wore Christ's crown of thorns for fifteen years, teach me to bear my own visible and invisible sufferings as gifts. Amen.
